Bhubaneswar, June 8: Following to the recovery of Rs 18 lakh cash amount from the chamber of the jailor of the Sambalpur circle jail on the 5th of June, the Additional Director General (Prisons) Arun Kumar Ray has today suspended the jailor, identified as Sushant Rout, from his post.
To be noted, a joint probe was earlier ordered to find out the actual source of the unaccounted money. Basing on the report submitted by two DIG-level officers in connection to the seize of cash, mobile phones, narcotics and other objectionable items, Rout has been placed under suspicion.
Though Rout had earlier said that the seized money was prisoner’s cash and advance for purchase of jail materials, he however couldn’t provide any proof of that.
Notably, to check crime syndicates running from inside the jails, a huge search operation was held in over 13 jails across Odisha in which many objectionable items, narcotics and cash was recovered.
