Bhubaneswar: January 23: Political activity of the state suddenly geared up as the news of death of Kunduli gang rape victim goes air. Tension ran high in Koraput after locals took away the body of the girl from hospital without allowing the officials to conduct a post mortem. Also, the locals backed by senior leaders of Congress including Pradip Majhi blocked NH-26 by placing the body of the girl.
State Congress Unit today gave a call for Bandh for tomorrow. The official Twitter handle of the Odisha Congress tweeted, “We call for a 12 hours Odisha Bandh call on 24th January 2018, Wednesday from 6 AM to 6 PM holding the Government solely responsible for the distressing Kunduli gang rape tragedy.’
Also, Congress has appealed the people to make the bandh call a huge success.
OPCC Prasad Harichandan alleged that the survivor committed suicide as she was mentally tortured by police and other higher officials including the team of doctors and unfortunately the Crime Branch and HRPC had also ruled out rape.
Not only Congress, several political parties started staging demonstrations on Tuesday seeking justice for the girl. Parties have demanded for action against those involved in the gang rape and police officials who failed to provide justice to the girl.
The girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself inside her house on Monday. Family Members took her to the hospital. She was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Protesting over the issue, BJP activists demonstrates in Bhubaneswar today which further leads to clash between Police and activists. Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the BJP workers after they breached the security cordon near Sishu Bhawan Chhak. BJP Odisha Unit today also announced to observe a 12-hour ‘Hartal’ tomorrow in protest of State government’s failure in providing justice to the girl.
