Naveen for promotion of Urdu, Sanskrit to uphold pluralistic cultural heritage

Bhubaneswar, Nov 29: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said “It is the need of the hour to promote Urdu and Sanskrit to uphold their secular and pluralistic cultural heritage, he said speaking at a function to inaugurate the Sanskrit-Urdu Heritage Caravan in Odisha.

Patnaik said, language has many usages as it is a means of communication, an instrument of transmitting knowledge and an expression of cultural and creative instincts of a community.  Urdu and Sanskrit are the two basic languages which represent India’s great culture heritage, he said.

The Chief Minister said Sanskrit is the mother of most of the modern Indian languages and is the language of our ancient tradition and culture and Urdu played a vital role during freedom struggle as most of our freedom fighters from North India such as Bhagat Singh, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad delivered speeches in that language which appealed to the masses, he said.

“It is this language which gave slogans like “Inquilab Zindabad,” Patnaik said.
