Aizawl: February 22:  Women again outnumbered men in Mizoram’s final voter list, which was published on Friday after a four-and-a-half month long summary revision.

The voter list was published simultaneously across the state with January 1, 2019, as qualifying date of age.

Mizoram is the fourth northeastern state after Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya, where female voters have exceeded male voters for the past several years.

According to a Mizoram Election Department official, of the total of 784,405 voters in the final list, as many as 4,02,408 are women and 3,81,991 men. There are six third gender voters.

“In seven of the eight districts, except Mamit, the number of women voters is higher than male voters,” the official pointed out.

The state’s final electoral rolls have seen an increase of 1.45 per cent voters over last year’s rolls, which had a total of 768,181 voters — with 393,685 women and 374,496 men.

“The Election Commission has allowed the state Election Department to publish the final photo-affixed electoral rolls,” the official added. (IANS)
