NEW DELHI: Pakistan has stressed the need to allow representatives of the Taliban government in Afghanistan to send a delegation to the South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) that was going to be held at New York next Saturday.

Earlier, the SAARC 2020 was held virtually keeping in view of the COVID Pandemic.

This Year’s SAARC Summit was scheduled to happen on 25th of September outside the 76th UN Session, at New York. However, the Summit has been cancelled after Pak’s request of involving a Members from the Taliban ruled Afghan Government, as majority of the countries did not agree to it’s proposal.

Most of the SAARC member states have rejected Pakistan’s request, sources said. Pakistan has also said that in any case, no representative of the Afghan government led by Ashraf Ghani should be allowed to attend the meeting of the SAARC foreign ministers.
