A team to assess the damages caused by cyclone jawad in odisha

A team from centre shall arrive in Odisha today to assess the damages caused by cyclonic storm Jawad. Also, the team shall review the relief and restoration works carried out by the State administration following cyclone.

The six-member central team will have representatives from Agriculture, Finance (Dept Of Expenditure), Fisheries, Power, Road Transport, and Rural Development, sources said.

Saurav Ray, Joint Secretary (CEPI), Ministry of Home Affairs, s leading the inter-ministerial team.

The team will visit the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack and Kendrapara for the assessment study tomorrow before returning to Delhi on December 13.

The team will submit its report within one week to the Disaster Management Division of the MHA for quick admissibility of central assistance.

The Cyclonic Storm ‘Jawad’ weakened to depression and did not cause major damage in Odisha. But due to heavy rainfall, the farming community suffered a lot. As the rain happens just before peak Kharif harvest period, farmers may have to face huge crop loss.
