Odisha SEC Revises Expenditure Limit Ahead Of Urban Poll

State Election Commission has revised the expenditure limit for the candidates who shall contest the upcoming Municipal polls in Odisha.

As reported, the expenditure limit has been revised that may be incurred by a candidate either by himself or through any person authorized by him for election as Councillor/ Corporator/ Chairperson/ Mayor to a NAC/ Municipality/ Municipal Corporation.

As per the order of SEC,  the candidates contesting for the post of corporator in three Municipal Corporations of Odisha (Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Berhampur) can spend up to Rs 2 lakh. Also, it has said, candidates contesting for post of Mayor, can spend up to 12 lakhs.

Expenditure limit for candidates contesting for councilor and chairperson in municipalities, having population of one lakh) has been set at Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively.

For the Municipality having a population between 50,000 and 1 lakh, the expenditure limit for councillor and chairperson posts, has been fixed Rs 75,000 and Rs 3 lakh  respectively.

Candidates contesting for councilor and chairperson in NACs or municipalities having a population up to 50,000 can now spend upto Rs 50,000 and Rs 2 lakh, respectively.

The delimitation of wards, reservation seats and all other formalities required to conduct the ULB election has already been completed.

The Commission has convened a meeting with all political parties on February 10 to ensure smooth conduct of the urban poll.

Notably, the urban election in Odisha has not been conducted even after completion of the tenure of elected bodies in 2018.
