Bhubaneswar: April 11: President of the Pakistan Muslim League-N, Shahbaz Sharif, has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan. He is younger brother of former three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The new prime minister Shehbaz Sharif has been the leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018.

Previously, he has served as the Chief Minister of Punjab three times in his political career, making him the longest-serving Chief Minister of Punjab.

Sharif got a total of 174 votes, two more than 172 needed to be elected.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi was also in the fray for the prime ministerial post. But, PTI members of the National Assembly resigned en masse led by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Imran Khan was ousted as the prime minister of Pakistan from office through a no-confidence motion after the National Assembly debated on the matter for more than 12 hours on Saturday.
