As people allegedly barged into the Adava police station in Odisha’s Gajapati district and beat up officers, tensions continue to remain high.
According to accounts, the neighborhood protested this morning against the detention of a villager in a marijuana smuggling case by gheraoing the police station.
The culprit, a Jharanpur village resident, was taken into custody by police last night during a neighborhood sweep. The locals claimed that he had been the target of false accusations. They sought the person’s immediate release and the dismissal of the case.
The situation became violent when the demonstrators forced open the police station’s gate, stormed inside, beat up the officers, and ransacked the property there.
The residents were holding a dharna in front of the police station to press their demands up until the latest reports came in.
