KIMS Doctors Perform Rare Surgery To Give A New Lease Of Life To A Teenage Girl

Bhubaneswar: July 27: A teenage girl from Bhadrak who was suffering from a spinal deformity known as Scoliosis was successfully given a new lease on life by the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Bhubaneswar. Her bright future was jeopardized by the abnormal curve in her spine, which appeared to be ‘S-shaped’. But because of the skill of the medical professionals at KIMS, her spine was precisely corrected in a recent complicated operation, and she is now on a path to a full recovery, prepared to once again embrace a normal life.

This groundbreaking surgery is the first time a private hospital in Odisha has performed a procedure of this complexity, reinforcing KIMS’s position as the state’s premier provider of advanced medical care.

Dr. Jitendra Kumar Rout, Senior Consultant and Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon, along with Anaesthetist Dr. Sanjeev Giri and Dr. Rajmohan, performed the operation with skill. Dr. Rout ensured that the young woman could return to her studies, play with her friends, and fully appreciate life. were also played a significant role in the operation.

Dr. Rout explained that the girl’s spinal deformity was “idiopathic scoliosis,” a condition that typically develops between the ages of 10 and 15 and, if left untreated, can result in severe deformities and have a significant impact on self-confidence and self-esteem. Due to their appearance, such patients are frequently ridiculed. Correcting the deformity at a young age is essential, as it becomes more difficult to treat as the patient ages.

The girl’s family sought treatment at a number of hospitals, including AIIMS, but had lost hope until they arrived at KIMS. The life-altering surgery, which was covered by the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) programme, was performed after a thorough review of the patient’s case.
