Bhubaneswar: December 18: Six people have died in Rourkela so far because of , and Niranjan Mishra, the director of public health for Odisha, said that 20 others are still seriously ill

Mr Mishra said, “About 595 persons have been affected till now. Out of that 343 patients were admitted to hospital. As many as 145 patients have been cured and discharged from hospital while 162 patients are currently under treatment at various hospitals across the State.’

Six Rapid Action teams have been deployed by the Health Department to handle cases of diarrhea. Twelve staff nurses, two technicians, four junior doctors from the CDMO, and four faculty members from Sundargarh Hospital, have been assigned to care for patients in Steel City. Six mobile units are also in operation in Rourkela to treat new patients and raise awareness among the public.

The District Collector has looked into what’s going on and made sure that the hospitals have enough drugs. Since this disease is spread through water, the Collector has asked the WATCO to add more chlorine to the supplied water.

People with diarrhea began coming to the RGH on December 10, and the number of cases kept going up over the next few days.
