Mumbai, Jan 6: Mumbai school cricketer Pranav Dhanawade, on Tuesday, became the first batsman to score 1,000 runs in an innings for KC Gandhi School against Arya Gurukul during the HT Bhandari Cup inter-school cricket tournament organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) at Kalyan.
Dhanwade is only 15 years-old from Kalyan created history. Earlier on Monday, Dhanawade had broken the earlier record of highest score in school cricket, as he went past Prithvi Shaw’s record of 546 made in the Giles Shield in 2014-15. His school declared the innings at 1465 with him unbeaten on 1009.
The world-record knock finally ended when Pranav’s team decided to declare the innings 1465 for 3, with their star batsman still unbeaten at 1009 in just 323 balls he faced during his 395-minute stay at the crease.
Dhanawade smashed 59 sixes and 129 fours off only 323 balls, making the most of the short 30-yard boundary on one side of the ground.
The previous record in minor cricket – below first-class and List A level – was 628 not out by England’s Arthur Collins in 1899.
In a unique coincidence, the father and son share their cricket idols in Sachin Tendulkar, and now their sons share friendship as Mumbai’s budding cricketers.
“His idol is Sachin Tendulkar. Even when I used to play, my idol was Sachin as well. Sachin’s son Arjun is a good friend of Pranav. They used to play together in Mumbai.
Like his predecessors, Pranav too has highlighted that Mumbai remains the nursery of Indian batting. After Sarfaraz Khan’s 439, Arman Jaffer’s 498 and Prithvi Shaw’s 546, Dhanawade has added another gem to Mumbai’s junior cricket.
