‘Zeenat’ Jumps Similipal to Jharkhand

Baripada: Three-year-old tigress ‘Zeenat’, which was brought from Maharashtra and released into the wild in Odisha’s Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR), has ventured into the forests in neighbouring Jharkhand, a top forest officer said on Monday.

‘Zeenat’ was in good health entered a forest in Jharkhand adjoining to STR in the north on Sunday. The tigress has been located roaming in the forest and her movement is being monitored by a team, said Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF)-cum-field director of STR, Prakash Chand Gogineni

The forest officials of Jharkhand have also been informed and they are also keeping track of the movement of the tigress, he added.

‘Zeenat’ was brought from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Maharashtra on November 15 and kept in observation in an enclosure. Later, the tigress was released into the wild.

Worth mentioning, the Similipal sanctuary is home to 28 tigers, including 15 that are pseudo-melanistic.
