Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Thursday said that with the establishment of a High performance Center for badminton will propel the State to new heights in the game.
Odisha is set to flourish in the badminton sport soon, he said inaugurating a Badminton High Performance Center at Kalinga Stadium here.
The establishment of the center in Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation and Dalmia India Group has created an epoch-making opportunity for the young badminton players of Odisha, Majhi said.
“The young badminton players of our country are our pride and glory. They have made a name for themselves on the world stage in the field of sports with their unremitting efforts and have brought glory to the country,” he said.
The Center has all kinds of facilities for better training and all-round development of the players, he said and added, “In the coming days Odisha will be known in the world of badminton through this center.”
Majhi complimented Assam Chief Minister and President of Badminton Association of India Dr. Himanta Vishwasharma, noted badminton player Padma Bhushan Pullela Gopichand and CEO of Dalmia Bharat Group PY Dalmia and MD Gautam Dalmia for their cooperation and efforts.
The Assam Chief Minister said that this Badminton High Performance Center is a significant milestone not only for India but also for the world of sports.
“This center will take the game of badminton to new heights in India,” he asserted.
Vishwasharma thanked the State Government, especially the Chief Minister, for providing all the support in establishing this centre.
“Under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has now become a sports powerhouse. The center will help in fulfilling the goals set by the Prime Minister regarding sports and will play a major role in the development of badminton in Odisha,” he said and added that sports are developing in our country with the joint cooperation of both the government and the public.
Thanking the Odisha government for this centre, eminent badminton player Gopichand praised the progressive thinking of the state government for the development of sports in Odisha.
He said that many talented players from this center will become famous at national and international level in the coming days.
Dalmia informed about his organization’s program for the development of sports in Odisha.
Notably, this indoor high-performance center, built on an area of 77,000 square feet has 8 air-conditioned badminton courts with seating facilities for 400 spectators.
It has facilities for organizing both national and international tournaments. Along with this, the center has also developed state-of-the-art facilities to house 36 players. The center is designed like a badminton shuttlecock, with a 2000-seat amphitheater.
