Rainfall Predicted Till December 22

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience rainfall until December 22 due to the impact of low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal. The Regional Meteorological Center has predicted light to moderate rainfall in both coastal and interior regions. Alongside, the state is also witnessing a rise in temperature.

According to the reports, several districts including Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara to receive light to moderate rain today. The districts in coastal and interior Odisha including Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar may witness light rain at a few places.

The weather department has reported a significant rise in the minimum temperature across the state. Many areas have recorded an increase by 2- 5 degree Celsius. However, eight places have recorded temperatures of 10 degree Celsius or below. It is worth noting that in the next two days, temperature is expected to increase by another 2- 3 degree Celsius.

The low pressure system has developed over the Bay of Bengal and is moving northwest. It is expected to approach the Tamil Nadu coast within the next two days. This will cause heavy rainfall to very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, reported the India Meteorological Department.

The Cyclone Warning Center (CWC) in Visakhapatnam has also issued a forecast for Andhra Pradesh. It predicted moderate to heavy rainfall over the next three to four days. This is informed by KVS Srinivas, MD at the CWC. Earlier this month, a similar low pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal brought widespread rain to coastal districts of Tamil Nadu.

The IMD has reported a drop in minimum temperature by 1- 2 degree Celsius in parts of Western Himalayan region, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and interior Odisha. Meanwhile temperatures have rose by 1- 2 degree Celsius in Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, West Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Northwest and Western India.
