Bhubaneswar: Congress leader and leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is in for great trouble after the violent incident in the Parliament on Thursday. According to constitutional experts he could also lose his Leader of Opposition status if the charges made against him are proved in a court of law.

It is alleged that Rahul Gandhi pushed BJP Lok Sabha members Pratap Sarangi from Odisha and Mukesh Rajput during a protest demonstration over the recent remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha on the father of constitution Dr BR Ambedkar two days ago.

A named complaint has been filed in the Parliament Street police station and it may be changed to a First Information Report after police inquiry. But the Congress leader may find it really difficult to wriggle out of the issue as the entire parliament complex is under CCTV coverage and it would take only a few minutes to check the footage and find the truth.

If a First Information Report is lodged against the Leader of Opposition, then the speaker may have to take some harsh decisions. Over and above the assault issue, the complaint of a woman MP could also multiply Rahul’s woes.

A criminal case is something the Congress leader would relish the least. He is already in soup in the ‘Modi Surname’ case and convicted for two years. Of course he has now got a suspension on it from the apex court. The ‘insult to Sabarkar’ issue is also pending in the court over and above the ‘National Herald’ case.
