Bhubaneswar: the Department of Water Resources, the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) Gujarat, and Director of Fisheries Odisha have signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen the fisheries sector in Odisha.
The MoU was signed tuesay in the presence of Anu Garg, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Odisha’s Department of Water Resources (DoWR) here.
This partnership aims to build capacity within the fisheries sector through comprehensive training programs focused on enhancing the marketing of fisheries products.
The MoU outlines initiatives under the OIIPCRA to train Fisheries Officers and progressive farmers on fish market development. These programs will provide structured, residential training for officials and stakeholders, offering knowledge on domestic market consumption, marketing techniques, and consumer behaviour.
An essential component of the collaboration is the “Training of Trainers” (ToT) for government officials and stakeholders, empowering them to develop effective strategies for market outreach and value chain improvement. Additionally, exposure visits to successful value chains will be organized, providing participants with first-hand experience and interactive learning opportunities. The collaboration aims to improve supply chain management and foster a stronger, more resilient fisheries sector in Odisha, ultimately benefiting local farmers and fisheries officers alike.
