Odisha CM reviews progress of major projects of WR Dept

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Wednesday reviewed the work of various dams and large irrigation projects of the Water Resources Department here and directed officials to start work on 5 major irrigation projects.
The Chief Minister discussed the current status of the Ib Irrigation Project in Sundargarh district, Anga Irrigation Project in Bargarh district, Bhimkund Barrage Project in Keonjhar district, Jharpada Irrigation Project, and Kanupur Irrigation Project and how these projects will be expedited in the coming days.
The Chief Minister said that despite being proposed for a long time, important irrigation projects of the state have not been implemented till date and directed the officials to take immediate steps in this direction.
The Chief Minister said that to solve the irrigation problems of the farmers in all these areas, barrage and irrigation projects should be implemented immediately.
“The farmer brothers and sisters should be benefited through this project in both Kharif and Rabi seasons,” he said and added that drinking water supply can also be ensured in the said areas through this project.
It was revealed from the discussion in the meeting that about 1,06,279 hectares of land can be irrigated by the Ib Irrigation Project. Similarly, about 30,000 hectares can be irrigated by the Anga Irrigation Project, 31,835 hectares by the Bhimkund Barrage Project, 17,500 hectares by the Jharpada Irrigation Project in Kendujhar, and about 29,578 hectares of agricultural land can be irrigated by the Kanupur Irrigation Project.
A total of 2,15,192 hectares of land can be irrigated by these five projects. For this, the Chief Minister directed the Water Resources Department to take all necessary steps immediately.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Water Resources Department Anu Garg and senior officers of the Water Resources Department.
