Bhubaneswar, Jan 12 : The State Election Commission today set January 22 for election of the Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation.
A notification of SEC said that nomination, scrutiny, withdrawal and election will be held on the same day.
The post had fallen vacant due to the resignation of Mayor Anita Behera who quit the post after her name figured in the beneficiary list of National Food Security Act on December 29.
Her resignation was preceded by widespread opposition protests and demands for her removal.
She had also resigned as a city corporator from Ward No 21 during the February, 2014 civic body elections.
“In order to maintain the honour of my party and of the Chief Minister, I am resigning from the posts of Mayor and corporator,” Behera had said at a press conference on that day.
CMC Commissioner Gyana Das had suspended two civic body employees over the ration card irregularities while a former Additional Commissioner Biswanath Sahoo was suspended by the Government on chages of laxity.
