Bhubaneswar: IMD DG Mrutyunjaya Mahapatra has refuted the rumours of the Cyclone Shakti. Several media channels were circulating rumours about the Cyclone Shakti. On May 13, a preparatory meeting under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja was convened. The meeting nowhere mentioned of any cyclone in the near future.
Bangladeshi hydrology expert Mustafa Kamal Pala said that a cyclone may form in the Bay of Bengal. A cyclone is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal between the 23rd and 28th. Meteorologists are currently making some estimates. If it is a cyclone, its name will be Shakti. However, the Indian Meteorological Department has refuted the rumours.
There is a possibility of a cyclone forming between May 16th and 18th. It may turn into a cyclone between May 23rd and 28th.
