Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: With the message ‘Road is ours, not of vehicles’, Raahagiri will be organised every Sunday from 6 am to 10 am from Jan 17 jointly by the BDA and the BMC for promotion of environment and culture.
The stretch of Janapath from Master Canteen Square to the Ram Mandir would be virtually turned into an open stage for entertainment, yoga, education and healthcare programmes on every Sunday as the Government decided to conduct ‘Raahagiri’.
A meeting held under chairmanship of Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda here on Monday decided that vehicles would not be allowed on the road during the four-hour period. “The road will witness people walking, cycling, skating and doing yogasans. Besides, singers and dancers will be seen performing with musical instruments, painters drawing colourful pictures and doctors examining denizens’ health.
The market would too come alive from the morning as shopkeepers would be requested to open their counters from 6 am and there would be food courts as per the decision.
While yoga and health checkup camps would be organised by the AYUSH Directorate, song and dance programmes would be presented by the Sangeet-Natak Mahavidyalay and the Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre, respectively.
The KIIT University would provide musical bands.
