Low pressure formed over Bay of Bengal

Bhubaneswar: The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has formed today and will take the shape of a well-marked low pressure in the next 48 hours. The rainfall in Odisha is likely to continue for four days till June 1.

The low pressure has developed over the Northwest and Adjoining west central bay of Bengal. The monsoon is to make its onset in Odisha within the next two days said the IMD.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) had issued directives to the districts where orange and yellow warnings have been issued for rain preparedness. The directive also mentioned the people to keep a tab on the weather conditions and the thunder and lightning. They have been asked to take shelter to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

The fishermen have been asked not to go into the rough seas. Further district administration have been asked to report any casualty or property loss due to rain, lightning and thunderstorms.

The low pressure will further intensify and Odisha is likely to experience rainfall till June 1. The yellow warning has been issued to 15 districts. At some places, the wind speed of 40 to 50 kmph is blowing. The pre-monsoon rain in the state is ongoing.

The IMD had also rejected all the rumours about the cyclone Shakti and clarified that no cyclonic storm has developed in the area.
