Senior Assistant in Vigilance Snare

Berhampur: Suraj Prasad Jaiswal, the Divisional Accounts Officer (DAO) and Naresh Pattanaik, the Senior Assistant of the office of Superintendent Engineer of Minor Irrigation in Gajapati district were nabbed by Odisha vigilance while demanding and taking bribe.

As informed by the Vigilance sleuths, both Jaiswal and Pattanaik were nabbed while taking a bribe of Rs 30,000, each taking Rs 15,000, from a complainant who is a contractor in lieu of passing of pending bills towards execution of works by the complainant.

The contractor was earlier had been issued with three work orders and one work order in name of his relative, amounting to over Rs 86 lakh. In the meantime, the said contractor had submitted running bills amounting to Rs 32 lakh.

The accused duos were demanding bribe Rs 30,000 for already clearance of bills Rs 32 lakhs through UPI transaction and to clear the rest bills after work is over by the complaint.

Finding no other way, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Following which, Vigilance Sleuths nabbed today both the accused persons namely Jaiswal and Pattanaik while taking bribe each Rs 15,000 through UPI transaction from the complainant.
