On Sunday morning, a tragic accident at a granite quarry in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district claimed the lives of six migrant workers from Odisha.

A significant incident took place at the Satyakrishna Granite Quarry close to Ballikurava, where a major portion of a rock face fell down.

Police officials report that 16 workers were on-site at the time of the rockslide. The collapse led to the tragic loss of six lives and left ten others with serious injuries.

Rescue operations are actively in progress to recover the bodies of two workers thought to be trapped beneath the debris, while four bodies have already been recovered.

The injured individuals have been taken to a government hospital in Narasaraopet, with reports indicating that several are in critical condition.

The Superintendent of Police for Bapatla, Tushar Dudi, has arrived at the accident site to supervise the ongoing rescue and recovery operations.

Initial findings indicate that insufficient safety protocols at the quarry could have played a role in the accident.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has voiced his concerns regarding the incident and has mandated a comprehensive investigation into the accident’s cause. He has instructed officials to guarantee that the injured workers obtain the highest quality medical care available.
