Out of 117 seats, the Aam Aadmi Party won in 92, Congress in 18, Bharatiya Janata Party in 2 while Shiromani Akali Dal got only three seats. The remaining two seats were won by an independent candidate and BSP.

Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Admi Party (AAP) is set to form government in Punjab and it is the second state for AAP after Delhi.  This win in Punjab, is making AAP a national force.

Chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, is set to resign after his party’ defeat.

Congress unit of Punjab battled anti-incumbency and also internal conflicts among the party leaders.

There was a Congress state chief and the chief minister not being on the same page.

The Shiromani Akali Dal contested the election with the Bahujan Samaj Party. BJP tied up with Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress and SAD (Sanyukt) led by SS Dhindsa.
