Alarnath Temple, the destination of devotees during ‘Anasara’:

Puri: June 22: Thousands of devotees have been rushing to Alarnath Temple at Brahmagiri in Puri district since last two days. After the holy bath on the day of ‘Deva Snan Purnima’, Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra go on a fortnight-long hibernation known as ‘Anasara’ or ‘Anavasara’. Anavasara is the two weeks period when Lord Jagannatha takes rest in isolation from the rest of the world after suffering from fever due to the annual bathing festival (Snana Yatra). Chaitanya Mahaprabhu stayed at Alarnath during anavasara period and he claimed that he visualised the appearance of Lord Jagannath in Alarnath and spent a long period in worshipping the deity here. It is believed that, one can get the blessings of the Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Balabhadra at Alarnath Temple during the Anasara.

An elaborate arrangement has been made by the Temple Administration for smooth darshan of the devotees. ‘Khiri Prasad’ is the main Prasad of Lord Alarnath and devotees have been enjoying the Prasad with darshan.
