Bhubaneswar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Odisha visit has been postponed, informed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Jajpur constituency Rabindra Narayan Behera today.

While speaking to newsmen about the update of Shah’s visit to the state, Behera informed that the Union Home Minister’s scheduled visit has been postponed as the country is observing a 7-day mourning over former PM Manmohan Singh’s death.

“All the government programmes and events have been cancelled as the central government has directed to observe a 7-day mourning following the sudden death of former PM Manmohan Singh yesterday. Only memorial ceremonies and some minimum official works can be done and we are told by the party that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Odisha visit has been cancelled in view of this,” said the Jajpur MP.

As it was informed by BJP’s Odisha in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar yesterday, Amit Shah was scheduled to arrive in Bhubaneswar tomorrow and attend different programmes before returning to Delhi on December 29. His two-day itinerary revealed that Shah was slated to attend a video conference meeting from Bhubaneswar, connecting with the BJP’s national headquarters in Delhi. This apart he was also to interact with party’s Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Members of Parliament (MPs), and workers at the Kalinga Stadium. Besides, his official programmes included events at the sector headquarter of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Bhubaneswar and at a university.
