Around six infants succumb to Japanese encephalitis in Malkangiri, Odisha

Malkangiri, Sept 23: In the past seven days, reportedly around six infants have lost their life due to the mosquito-borne disease-Japanese encephalitis in Palkunda village in Malkangiri district.

As per reports, with the death of one infant this afternoon at the district headquarters hospital (DHH); this year around 12 infants have lost their life due to this disease in Malkangiri district.

Presently many infants affected with this mosquito-borne disease are undergoing treatment at the DHH and around 14 infants have been shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur this afternoon, as their condition deteriorated.

Notably, Japanese encephalitis is a disease caused by mosquito biting whose symptoms usually take around 5-15 days to develop and include fever, headache, vomiting, confusion, and difficulty in moving. It is a serious disease that may cause death.
