The legendary actress Ms. Asha Parekh will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2020, according to a recent announcement from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The prize will be presented in New Delhi at the National Film Awards ceremony.
“I am honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to recognise & award Ms. Asha ParekhJi for her exemplary lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema,” Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur said when making the announcement.
The Minister also revealed that Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, will preside over the 68th National Film Awards, which will take place on September 30, 2022.
Ms. Asha Parekh is an accomplished Indian classical dancer as well as a well-known actress, director, and producer in the film industry. She began her acting career as a child actor and made her screen debut as the lead heroine in Dil Deke Dekho. Since then, she has appeared in over 95 films. She has starred in well-known movies like Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Teesri Manzil, Aya Saawan Jhoom Ke, Love in Tokyo, and Kati Patang.
In 1992, Ms. Asha Parekh received the Padma Shri award. From 1998 to 2001, she also presided over the Central Board for Film Certification.
The jury for the selection of the 52nd Dadasaheb Phalke award consisted of five members from the film industry. They are Ms. Asha Bhosle, Ms. Hema Malini, Ms. Poonam Dhillon, T. S. Nagabharana, and Shri Udit Narayan.
