Puri, Feb 22: Even as the Ruling BJD decided to raise the issue of repair of Shree Mandir in Puri by the Archaeological Survey of India during the Budget session of Parliament beginning Tuesday, a weak stone in Jagamohan of Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri was replaced by the ASI experts.
It was for the first time that a weak stone was shifted in the temple.
According to sources, the stone was shifted on Saturday.
Earlier two inspection teams from Delhi and Bengaluru after inspecting the holy porch said a full-fledged examination and thorough research is needed to repair the Jagamohan.
They said that repair of the column capital in the north-western corner especially the stone crack is not easy as carbon wrapping on Khondalite stone may or may not be possible.
Even the pockets within the ceiling and interior is quite weak thus repairing it will be a challenge as in case of this stone column collapsing, it’s apprehended that the entire Jagamohan will cave in
Notably, the ceiling of the Jagamohan rests on four stone columns. The stone column capital on the North-West side on which the Jagamohan’s ceiling rests has developed a crack and two stone blocks hanging out of it, along with multiple cracks have been noticed in the ceiling of the Jagamohan.
