Asian Athletics Championship to be held in Kalinga Stadium in Odisha capital in July 2017 for first time

Bhubaneswar, Mar 14: The Asian Athletics Championship is scheduled to be conducted at the Kalinga Stadium here in July first week. President of Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Adille J Sumariwalla declared Kalinga Stadium as one of the best venues in country after inspecting all its facilities and infrastructure. It will be the first time that Kalinga Stadium in bbsr will be conducting the mega sports event. While the event was expected to be held between July 1 to 4, AFI President Sumariwalla gave green signal to it yesterday. Around 45 countries will be taking part in the sports event. Sumariwalla expressed great happiness while speaking about Kalinga Stadium. He added that the stadium needs just a bit of cleaning and then its all set to host it. The championship will be organised by the Odisha Government. Works Department Secretary Nalinikanta Pradhan, IDCO CMD Sanjay Kumar Singh and Sports Department Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev apprised Sumariwalla about the infrastructure of the stadium yesterday. Also, the laying the synthetic track and warm up track in the stadium has started and various rooms of the stadium and gallery are also to be renovated with flood lights being installed. Sports Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev informed that being a huge event in which items will be imported from Australia, Dubai and America, it is a matter of concern that the things will be available in time or not.
