Bahabalpur cracker unit explosion in Odisha; Ten dead

Balasore/Cuttack: October 19: Bahabalpur cracker unit explosion took three more life as three victims succumbed to their injuries at the SCB hospital in Cuttack while undergoing treatment today. The deceased were identified as Ramapada Maiti, Nimainlal Pradhan and Nadini Behera(6 yr old) of Bahabalpur village.

Yesterday five persons died on the spot and one died at the SCB Medical College and Hospital. On the other hand, rest injured in the explosion are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

It is to be noted, Crackers were being made in the thatched house of Golak Pradhan and suddenly it caught fire after an explosion. Pradhan, his son and four others died on the spot. Fire Brigade personnel rescued the victims and sent to hospital. Chief Minister of Odisha expressed his grief over the incidence and announced an ex-gratia of Rs.2 Lakh each to the kin of the deceased and assistance of Rs.50,000/- to the injured persons.

Balasore MP Rabindra Kumar Jena, MLA Jiban Pradip Das, Collector Pramod Kumar Das and SP Nitin Sekhar visited the spot. Police started investigating on the incident and suspended the IIC of Bhabalpur PS for negligence in duty.
