Nilagiri, July 18: After the people of the Baunsabania village found smoke coming out of the Earth surface Saturday evening, the Balasore district administration asked the fire officials to examine the area in village under Nilagiri police limits in the district.
Bikash Kumar Sahu, a resident of Baunsabania village, said some people of the village noticed smoke and hot air blowing out of surface on Nilagiri-Panchalingeswar road on the outskirts of the village that evening.
Sahu further added that after knowing about this, he along with the village people went to the spot yesterday morning and after digging out a portion of that area, found more smoke and hot air coming out from within the surface. They also found the inner soil very hot as they dug deeper and suspect that there might be some gaseous elements inside the ground.
He also said that the villagers have informed the matter to the Sub Collector, Ghariram Murmu, who rushed to the area for an on-the-spot investigation.
When Murmu was asked about the incident, he said that he cannot say the exact reason and has asked the Fire Officer, Nilagiri to go to the spot and find out the reason as to why the smoke and hot air are coming out of the ground and to take adequate precaution for the safety of the people of the locality.
