Be Mobile, Use Technology and Behave Empathetically: Chief Secretary to OPS Probationers

Bhubaneswar: October 18: “The Police Men should be mobile and maximize use of technology”, said Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy. He said this today while interacting with the Odisha Police Service (OPS) Probationers in the Lokseva Bhawan conference hall today afternoon. Tripathy added, “Since police is the only visible Government personnel in public places and roads because of their uniform, they should always behave sympathetically towards the citizens. They should cultivate the traits of a responsible citizen in their personal life as well”. “As the salary in Government sector today is comparable to private sectors and Government job provides you a sense of security, you should also prepare yourself to come up to expectations of Government in serving the citizens”.

Today there is a sea change in performance expectation from the Government employees. Timely and appropriate delivery of services is of prime importance today. “This will be possible only when you work in a team in most transparent manner”. Odisha has 367 police stations, 435 fire service stations and 83 jails. We have also various categories of armed police wings. The per capita availability of police institutions in Odisha is higher than many other bigger states. These provide varied scopes to police officers for expression of their inner talent and innovation in duties. Tripathy advised the officers to enhance their efficiency and professionalism to meet the unprecedented challenges coming up in criminal as well as civil society scenario today.

Fifteen Probationers under training in Biju Patnaik State Police Academy led by DSP Udayabhanu Mishra participated in the interaction today. Discussions reveal that young men and women with higher professional qualification and work experience in corporate sectors have joined the Odisha Police Service in this batch.
