OSPCB sends show cause notice to two hotels in Odisha capital city

Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has slapped closure notices on two hotels in the capital city of Bhubaneswar for violating pollution control norms.

Nayapalli IRC Village-based Hotel Annapurna and Cuttack Road-based Hotel Pelikan were served show-cause notices. Earlier, OSPCB officials said they wanted to make sure that all hotels conform to pollution control norms.

Sources said, the closure notice of the OPSCB seems to have no impact on the hotels as eight hotels served with closure notice in last two months are yet to be closed down in the capital city.

OSPCB sources said that they are only empowered to serve closure notices to the hotels and it is the duty of the concerned district Collectors and Superintendent of Polices (SPs) to carry out the direction.

A total of 36 hotels running in Bhubaneswar have been served with closure notices. Sources said 903 hotels are running violating the pollution control norms in the State. Meanwhile, environmentalist demanded immediate administrative action against the errant hotels at least to save the environment and check pollution.

Similar notices were earlier served to six hostels, Hotel Urmee, Arya Palace, Keshari, Sreya, Bari International and Nirmala In the city.
