BJD Announces Candidates For 4 Rajya Sabha Seats

Bhubaneswar: May 29:Biju Janata Dal (BJD) nominated Sasmit Patra, Manas Mangaraj, Sulata Deo, and Niranjan Bishi as its candidates for the election to four Rajya Sabha Seats. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the names on Sunday.

It will be the second Rajya Sabha term for Sasmit Patra. BJD nominated Sasmit Patra for the second term due to his performance in Rajya Sabha.

Notably, the tenure of MPs N Bhaskar Rao, Prasanna Acharya, and Sasmit Patra will end on July 1. Also, a Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha fell vacant after Subhash Chandra Singh resigned from the post after being elected as the Mayor of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).

Polling for three Rajya Sabha seats will be held on June 10 while a bypoll to one Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha is to be held on June 13.

The BJD is in a position to win all four seats as it has a strength of 122 members in the Assembly.
