Bhubaneswar, May 17: Yesterday BJD senior leader and former Finance minister Pradeep Amat assumed the office as the Speaker of Odisha Assembly post a formal announcement by the deputy speaker Sanand Marandi following a voice vote in the House. He stated to media that he will ensure a healthy environment for the smooth functioning of the Assembly upon maintaining a cordial relationship with all the members of the House. The election for Assembly’s Speaker happened following the resignation of Niranjan Pujari. On Monday, the BJD moved a motion of notice before Assembly secretary to elect Amat for the top post. Following the notice, a special meeting of the House was convened and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik moved a resolution in this regard that was also supported by the Parliamentary Affairs minister Bikram Arukh.
