Bhubaneswar, April 4: State unit of BJP Sunday alleged massive irregularities in the selection process of construction workers with a view to grabbing construction Cess and central funds.

The party alleged that it is being done with the tacit knowledge of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The party said in a release that the government never identified the genuine construction workers and questioned registration of over 25 lakh construction workers.

While only 13 lakh beneficiaries were registered in the past years, the party tried to get 12 lakh more such workers registered through its District presidents, MLAs, former MLAs and Block presidents, party spokesperson Dilip Mohanty said.

He also said there is no system in place to identify such workers and demanded from the State government to reveal as to how much benefit such workers have received.

He alleged corruption being indulged into by the local BJD leaders to register the beneficiaries.

He also demanded to know if the allegations about distribution of cards to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in urban areas were true.
