BJP slams Govt over women atrocities in State

Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: State unit of Bhartiya Janata Party has threatened to resort to agitation is the Odisha government failed to curb the rising incidents of crimes against women across the state.

 The party alleged that the incidents of atrocities against women across the state has risen alarmingly in the past few days.

         According to National Crime Report Bureau (NCRB), the women atrocities in the state have been increased and women are not safe in the state, said senior leader Surama Padhi.

 She alleged that the culprits involved in the crimes are not punished.

 Addressing a press conference at party’s state headquarter here on Wednesday, Padhi spoke about the recent allegation in Ravenshaw University where women students were harassed allegedly by three senior women, men professors and the Vice Chancellor.

 Even, the victims were threatened not to disclose the incidents to any one, she alleged. “Such incident has brought shame for the premier educational institution like Ravenshaw University,” she said.

 Targeting the ruling BJD, she said that State Women Commission and Women & Child Welfare Department appear to be mute spectators to the rising atrocities against women.

 “The party, which has been claiming to respect women, has deviated from its goal,” she alleged.

 Padhi said that the party has decided to launch an agitation for a week from March first week to protest against the anti-women programmes of the government, Padhi said.
