September 4
Election Commission of India announced the date for the bye-elections in Bhabanipur besides two more assembly constituencies of West Bengal. Those constituencies are Samsergunj and Jangipur in Murshidabad district.
The elections in these three constituencies will be held on September 30 and counting will be held on October 3.
The elections in Samsergunj and Jangipur were withheld because of the death of the candidates before polls during the recently concluded assembly election in West Bengal.
But, in case of Bhabanipur assembly constituency, it was vacated by MLA Sovondeb Chattopadhyay. He resigned from the Constituency to make room for chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
In the recently concluded Assembly Election, Mamata Banerjee got defeated by Suvendu Adhiakri in Nandigram.
She is not an elected member of the legislative body.
Besides three Constituencies of West Bengal, By-Election in Odisha’s Pipili Constituencies will also be held on September 30.
Trinamool Congress has been asking for the election for quite a long time.
Just days back, a five-member delegation of Trinamool MPs met the election commissioner and demanded for the polls.
