‘Car Free Day’ in State capital on Jan 17

Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: As part of the Smart Mobility Solution and create awareness on creating an environment friendly city, BDA and BMC are going to organising the First ‘Car Free Day’ on January 17.

On the day from 6.30 am to 10 am the entire road from Ram mandir to Master canteen area will be fully utilised for citizens for on road activities like Yoga, Free Health checkup, cycle, Musical performance, walking, painting and Scatting.  Volunteer organisers, schools and other social organisation have joined hands with BDA and BMC for performing of the acitivities. Some of the leading hospitals of the State have agreed to conduct health check up freely for the citizens. BDA Vice Chairman Dr Krishan Kumar said that BDA will create awareness among citizens for making the city cleaner and greener.

For creating awareness BMC will put hoardings in major locations across the city. Kumar insisted to organise car free day ensuring its sustainability with more citizen participation method. As walkability is one of the major activities, a joint eviction squad comprising officials of BDA and BMC will be formed to free the encroachments of signage boards. Steps will be taken to initiate a special sanitation drive in the Raahgiri area.
