Bhubaneswar, Aug 15: A case has been registered against a couple from Kalinga under Rasola police station area as they tried to immolate themselves at the Dhenkanal Collectorate on Monday when the officials were busy for national flag hoisting on account of 70th Independence Day celebrations.
The couple, identified as Santosh Sahu and his wife Subhranjali Pati, said that they were being harassed by a private company in getting their dues and though they had sought the intervention of district administration officials in this case, nothing tangible has happened till now.
In their attempt to the self-immolation bid, the couple poured kerosene over themselves and were stopped by the police just when they were about to set fire. They resorted to take this step as the two had lost all hopes of getting justice.
According to sources, following the incident, the senior district administration officials assured the couple of all possible help and told them not to take such extreme step.
The police had detained the couple but released them after registering a case against the two. The couple is now safe.
