Cash prize awarded to four girls selected for Indian Women’s Hockey team at Rio Olympics

Bhubaneswar, July 13: With a historical achievement, after 36 years, by the Indian Women’s Hockey Team by qualifying for the Rio Olympics, the State Government, announced Rs. 50,000 as a cash prize on Tuesday to the four girls, Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz and Sunita Lakra of Odisha who will be representing the national women’s hockey team at the Rio Olympics in August.

Rs 50,000 cash prize to each girl would be given by the state government, informed by the elated Sports and Youth Service Minister, Sudam Marandi.

With the two girls Srabani Nanda and Dutee Chand, selected earlier for the Olympics, these four girls have brought in a moment of pride for the state by representing their country at the Rio Olympics.

While congratulating, the Odisha Cricket Association Secretary, Asirbad Behera also declared Rs 25,000 cash prize to be given to each of them along with Rs 10,000 to be given by the Odisha Olympic Association’s General Secretary, Rabindra Kumar Parida.

Former captain of Indian Hokey Team and MP, Dilip Tirkey also congratulated for their achievement and said that the people of Odisha would feel honored because of their achievement by creating berth in Indian Women’s hockey team for the Olympics.
