Cash Seizure case: ED to conduct investigation on request of Sambalpur Superintendent of Police

Sambalpur, Dec 7: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will probe the recent seizure of Rs 1.42 cr here. Sambalpur Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Singh had written a letter to the ED asking it to probe into the incident. A team of the Sambalpur police probing the incident landed in Bhubaneswar yesterday to collect information from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), informed Singh.

It may be noted here that acting on a tip-off on Sunday that attempt was being made to convert black money to white police conducted a raid. During the raid, police seized Rs 1.42 crore including Rs 85 lakh in new currency was seized. While eight persons including a bank employee were arrested by the police in connection with the incident, two pistols and a car were also seized from their possession. The currency notes were seized from a liquor trader of Sunapali area of Sambalpur.

The Income Tax department is also investigating the source of such huge quantity of cash.
