Cash Seizure case in Sambalpur: SDJM court gives 8 accused 4-day remand period

Sambalpur, Dec 15: In connection to the Samabalpur cash seizure case where RS 1.43 crore was been seized by some miscreants, the Sambalpur Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court gave allowance to the cops to take the eight accused on a four-day remand period starting from today. It’s stated that the cops had appeared at the court requesting the latter to take the accused persons on a seven day remand period but the court allowed for a four-day remand.

On Dec 4, the Sambalpur Police had seized cash worth Rs 1, 42, 91,500 that included new currency notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 denominations. It had arrested eight persons regarding the same from Dhanupali area. Among the eight accused two were State Bank of India (SBI) Main Branch Public Relation Officer (PRO) Rashmi Ranjan Rout and liquor businessman Zeyarat Ali and the others were three sons of Zeyarat Ali, Md Qazzafi, Riffat Ali and Sabtin Ali, Pankaj Kumar Rout, brother of the SBI staff, Kapil Jhajharia and Rabi Trivedi.

The total amount seized consisted of new denominations worth Rs 85, 62,000 and old Rs 500 currency notes worth Rs 24 lakh and legal currency notes less than Rs 100. A major amount of the cash was seized from an i10 car having the registration number as, OR 15N 5707 and the rest of the amount had been acquired from a house after an investigation.
