Berhampur: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team nabbed an official of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) office in Berhampur on Friday morning.
Acting on a complaint, the CBI team laid a trap and nabbed the EPFO official by conducting a raid while he was allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from an authority of a private company.
The law enforcement agency caught the EPFO official red-handed while he was taking the bribe money from the complainant at a hotel situated in Lanjipalli area of Berhampur today.
The accused EPFO official was reportedly taking the bribe from the private employee with the promise to facilitate him getting the digital signature, said sources adding that the entire bribe money has been seized from his possessions.
It is to be noted here that digital signature is a key requirement for processing official documentation for companies.
After catching him red-handed while taking the bribe, the CBI sleuths are shifting the accused EPFO official to the Bhubaneswar branch office to interrogate him further, informed the sources.
Though thee central agency has not revealed much details about the accused EPFO official, it is suspected that a search operation would be conducted on the places linked to the concerned accused official.
