Bhubaneswar: July 20: Officials from Childline, in collaboration with the police, successfully intervened to prevent the marriage of a 16-year-old girl to a man from Madhya Pradesh in the city of Cuttack, located in the state of Odisha.
The officials were informed of a matrimonial event wherein a juvenile female was scheduled to be wedded to a male individual aged 25, hailing from the state of Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday. They notified the Cantonment Police Station right away. When police arrived at the temple, they prevented the proposed marriage and saved the young girl.

The bridegroom, however, managed to flee the scene before police arrived at the temple. Four people were taken into custody by the police, including the girl’s family and the case’s mediators.
According to the sources, the young girl was brought before the District Child Welfare Committee and her statement was recorded.
“The mob at the temple gheraoed us when we got there and helped the groom flee. The victim girl was successfully saved, and we took her to the Cantonment police station. The girl is only 16 years old and just completed her matriculation exam, according to Childline member Narayan Sukla.
