Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: Before the Chief minister Naveen Patnaik came to inaugurate the Biju Patnaik Sports Complex and two newly constructed hostels at Utkal university on Monday, shops and market complexes remained closed at least for half an hour, from PMG Square to Acharya Vihar and from Acharya Vihar to Vani Vihar and vehicles were stranded that were ahead of the Chief Minister.

The Commissionerate did not take any chances and around 30 platoons of police were deployed yesterday to ensure that the incident that happened during the CM’s visit to the university last year, did not get repeated again this year.

Notably, some Student Congress activists had managed to pelt rotten eggs and stones at the CM’s car near Keshari Talkies during his visit to address a students’ union function in the Utkal campus last year. More than a dozen of Congress activists were arrested and section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder) was charged against them by the police which made it difficult for them to get bail.

The sports complex that was inaugurated by the CM yesterday has been set up by the Sports Council of Utkal University and the Department of Sports and Youth Services.
