Bhubaneswar: June 27: Odisha Government ordered the compulsory retirement of Prashanta Kumar Rout, Additional Sub-Collector of Nabarangpur district. He was detained by State Vigilance on suspicion of having disproportionate assets worth Rs. 5.21 crore. The possession of assets by Rout is 506 percent more than his known sources of income.
Prashanta Kumar Rout, an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer’s home was raided by the state’s vigilance department and cash to the tune of Rs.3 Crore was recovered.
A double-story building in Bhubaneswar, several plots in sought-after areas of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, and one benami plot at Umarkote in the Nawarangpur district were all discovered in his name during house searches, according to the officials.
Rout was arrested on Saturday and subsequently sent to jail after his bail petition was rejected by a court in Sundergarh district.
The Odisha government has prosecuted numerous such officers for their alleged involvement in corruption cases as part of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
