Bhubaneswar, Dec 28: Earlier yesterday representatives of Odisha Congress Farmers’ Cell met Governor SC Jamir focusing on the agony of sale of paddy in the state.

Cell in-charge Amiya Patnaik, along with other 15 member delegates submitted Jamir a memorandum seeking better procurement facilities and higher quantities of procurement among others. They also highlighted that even though the harvest is good in the state, the sale is massively affected and is only due to the lower quantities of procurement, said sources.

While 20-30 quintals have been harvested per acre in most places, the government is procuring only 18 from irrigated areas and 12 from non-irrigated areas, which leads to a distress in the sale.
